New Delhi, December 1, 2025 (News360 Exclusive):
India’s Parliament Winter Session kicked off today (December 1), but contrary to expectations, it was marred by uproar and heated debates. Opposition parties targeted the government in both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, particularly over the extension of the Special Intensive Recruitment (SIR) form deadline, scrutiny of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), and economic policies. Both Houses were adjourned until 2 PM on the very first day, raising questions on whether this session will also be limited to ‘noise and clamor’. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media at the session’s start, but opposition disruptions left several key discussions hanging in the balance.
Uproar in Lok Sabha: What’s the Full Story?
The Lok Sabha session erupted right from the outset with opposition protests over the SIR form submission deadline. The Election Commission of India (ECI) recently extended the cutoff, but the opposition claims it’s merely an ‘electoral gimmick’. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi stated in the House, “The government has failed to deliver on youth employment promises. The SIR extension is just a numbers game.” In response, a Union Minister clarified that it’s for the convenience of youth, not political gain.
Debates also flared up over recent Manipur riots and the passage of the Manipur GST Bill. The bill’s approval provides financial relief to the state, but the opposition labeled it ‘central overreach’. One MP quipped, “GST now stands for ‘Supreme Tax on the Poor’, not ‘Goods and Services Tax’.” During the session, praise was also given to CBI’s crackdown on digital scammers, where over 50 gangs were busted.
Rajya Sabha: Focus on Citizenship and Cyclone
In the Rajya Sabha, the spotlight was on the Supreme Court’s ruling on the central government’s citizenship verification powers. The ECI informed the court that these powers are ‘limited’, sparking fresh debates on CAA. An opposition leader remarked, “This verdict will ease concerns for millions, but the government must ensure transparency.”
On another front, the weakening Cyclone ‘Ditwah’ in the Bay of Bengal brought relief to coastal areas. According to the India Meteorological Department, it has now downgraded to a deep depression and is heading towards Odisha-Andhra Pradesh. However, risks of heavy rain and flooding persist. NDRF teams are deployed in eastern coastal states.
Positive News on the Economic Front
Amid the session, some upbeat updates emerged. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) surged 18% to $35.18 billion from April to September 2025, signaling economic strength. The RBI appointed Usha Janakiraman as Executive Director, a key move for the banking sector.
In Punjab politics, Shiromani Akali Dal leader Harsimrat Badal took a firm stance against alliance with BJP. She stated, “Our priority is Punjab, not Delhi’s politics.” This remark has become a hot topic ahead of upcoming elections.
What’s Next?
The Parliament session will run until December 22, with the opposition demanding discussions on 12 major issues, including inflation, unemployment, and farmer protests. Will the government respond, or will the chaos continue? News360.Live is keeping a close watch.
