Congress Seeks Lok Sabha Discussion on Deportation of Over 100 Indians from the US

Amritsar, India: The deportation of over 100 Indian nationals from the United States has sparked a major political debate, with the Congress Party demanding an urgent discussion in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.

On Wednesday, a US Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft carrying 104 Indian immigrants landed at Amritsar airport at 1:55 PM. The deportees, primarily from Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Uttar Pradesh, were reportedly subjected to harsh and degrading treatment, raising concerns over human rights violations.

Congress Moves Adjournment Motion in Lok Sabha

Senior Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, Deputy Leader of the Lok Sabha, moved an adjournment motion, condemning the deportation process.

“The deportations of over 100 Indian nationals, including 25 women and 12 minors, were carried out under deeply distressing and humiliating conditions. Reports indicate they were shackled and treated in a degrading manner, violating their human dignity and rights. This House must urgently address the issue to prevent further dehumanization of our people,” the motion stated.

Breakdown of Deportees by State

According to PTI sources, the deported individuals belong to:

  • 33 from Haryana
  • 33 from Gujarat
  • 30 from Punjab
  • 3 from Maharashtra
  • 3 from Uttar Pradesh
  • 2 from Chandigarh

Government Agencies Interrogate Deportees

Following their arrival, the deportees were questioned by various state and central intelligence agencies, including the Punjab Police, to verify if they had any criminal records.

By 6:45 PM, individuals from Punjab were transported to their hometowns in police vehicles, while those from Haryana were taken back by the state police.

Timing Raises Political Questions

The US deportation move comes just days ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Washington, D.C., where he is expected to hold high-level talks with US President Donald Trump. This has led to speculation about the political and diplomatic implications of the mass deportation.

Conclusion

With rising concerns over the treatment of Indian immigrants, the Congress Party is urging the Indian government to take up the matter on an international level. The Lok Sabha discussion is expected to shed light on the issue and push for stronger measures to protect Indian nationals abroad.
