Fighting & Military Developments

  • Massive Overnight Assault on Kremenchuk:
Russia launched a “large-scale” attack on the central Ukrainian city of Kremenchuk, local officials told The Kyiv Independent. The full extent of destruction is still being assessed.
  • Drone–Missile Barrage Across Ukraine:
Ukraine was hit by one of the war’s largest coordinated attacks, with 653 drones and 51 missiles fired by Russia overnight.
Ukrainian forces intercepted 585 drones and 30 missiles, according to the military.
  • Critical Energy Infrastructure Hit:
Power and heat facilities across Chernihiv, Zaporizhia, Lviv and Dnipropetrovsk were damaged.
Port infrastructure in Odesa was also struck, leading to further disruptions.
  • Railway Hub Targeted:
The railway depot and carriages at Fastiv, a key hub near Kyiv, were hit. No casualties have been reported so far, according to Ukrzaliznytsia.
  • Blackouts and Nuclear Risks:
Damage to energy networks caused widespread power outages, forcing nuclear plants to scale back output.
The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant, still under Russian control, temporarily lost all external power before reconnecting to a 330kW line. A major 750kW line remains offline, the IAEA confirmed.
  • Russia’s Justification:
Moscow said its “massive strike” was retaliation for alleged Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian areas.
It claimed the use of Kinzhal hypersonic missiles and long-range drones.
  • Ukraine Strikes Back:
Ukraine said it hit the Ryazan oil refinery inside Russia and a shell-casing factory in occupied Alchevsk (Luhansk region).
  • Frontline Situation in Donetsk:
Ukraine denied Russian claims of encircling Pokrovsk and Myrnohrad, asserting that logistical routes remain open and defensive positions intact.
  • Chornobyl Shield Damaged:
The protective structure built over the 1986 Chornobyl disaster site “can no longer perform its main safety function” due to drone damage, the IAEA warned. Kyiv blamed Moscow for the strike.
  • Poland Scrambles Jets:
Poland activated fighter jets amid Russia’s barrage on Ukraine, though its military reported no violation of Polish airspace.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he had a “long, substantive” call with US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Discussions focused on advancing negotiations aimed at ending the war.
  • Zelenskyy said both sides agreed on “next steps and formats” for peace talks with the US.
  • The call followed a meeting between Witkoff, Kushner and Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov in Miami.
Kyiv’s envoy to Washington told Axios that key sticking points remain territorial issues and security guarantees.
  • High-Level London Meeting on Monday:
Zelenskyy is expected to meet UK PM Keir Starmer and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in London.
French President Emmanuel Macron has also confirmed his participation.
  • Hungary Signals Preparation for Post-War Landscape:
