Syria’s new Foreign Minister, Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, is set to visit Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan to seek critical investment and strengthen ties with these nations. This diplomatic tour follows his recent trip to Saudi Arabia, signaling a strategic effort to foster stability and economic recovery in the war-torn country.
Al-Shaibani, who represents the newly formed government that ended the decades-long rule of the al-Assad family, announced the visits through a social media post. He emphasized the need to “support stability, security, economic recovery, and build distinguished partnerships” with the Gulf states.
The new administration, which took control last month, is keen to attract investment to rebuild Syria’s infrastructure and revitalize its war-ravaged economy. Saudi Arabia is poised to play a pivotal role in this reconstruction effort, with al-Shaibani leading a high-level delegation to Riyadh earlier this week. The delegation included Syria’s new defense minister and intelligence chief, underscoring the importance of Saudi involvement.
In a related development, a Saudi delegation from the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre visited Damascus to discuss humanitarian and medical cooperation with Syrian Health Minister Maher al-Sharaa. This meeting marks a significant step towards restoring Syria’s healthcare system, which has been severely impacted by the prolonged conflict and governance challenges.
On the security front, Syrian Prime Minister Ahmed al-Sharaa and Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati have agreed to work together to ensure peace along their shared border. This agreement follows recent clashes that resulted in injuries to Lebanese soldiers. Al-Sharaa assured Mikati that measures are in place to prevent further incidents and extended an invitation for Mikati to visit Damascus to discuss mutual interests.
This series of diplomatic engagements reflects the Syrian government’s efforts to rebuild its international relationships and secure the support needed for the country’s recovery and development.
